InHuman
InHuman is a visual novel, interactive narrative experience about a detective, trapped between two sides of the superhuman debate within the city of Grimhel
Enter into a world of consequence as you're forced into making decisions that demonstrate where your allegiances align: either to the cold, unfeeling Monarch Corporation or the radical Anti-Superhuman movement
Take on the role of Detective Varkus as you navigate a city torn apart by two sides of a controversial issue, the so-called "Superhuman Debate", where on one side, you have the Monarch Corporation pushing for its "Superhuman Enforcers" to be a part of the U.S. Military Industrial Complex, and the other side spearheaded by John Marks, a radical anti-superhuman pushing for mass violence against superhumans.
Working with business associate, Attorney Paul Mannings, uncover the mystery behind a murder case involving former super enforcer Francis Ticonderoga and decide who you will pledge your allegiance to.
This project had solely been designed around the idea of giving the player hard decisions that they must make in order to move the plot forward, experimenting with giving players parity in whatever narrative path they chose (even if both paths ended up being bad). What this project really taught me was the importance of making sure to give the player an out, whether that be giving them the option to undo choices or the ability for their character to leave whatever bad situation they got themselves into halfway through, while still providing some matter of consequences.
InHuman overall taught me the importance of creating not only a world players would care deeply about and how their choices may affect it, but it also taught me how to make said consequences feel fair and also rewarding in a narrative sense.
